Kerrie Logan Hollihan

Author Kerrie Logan Hollihan channels her inner sixth grader, who read Compton’s Encyclopedia “for fun,” to write award-winning nonfiction for young people. As a kid, she followed the Mercury and Gemini space programs, pasted Chicago Tribune clippings in her scrapbooks (“HOW GLENN DID IT”), and convinced her principal to send her and another girl to see astronaut Edward White, the first American to walk in space. (“Two boys got to go, so we decided we should too!” ).
With both history and journalism degrees, Kerrie’s best author moments are making connections between past and present in her books and book talks. Her books appear on classroom reading lists from grades 4-12. She shares her enthusiasm for learning with young readers during school visits–both live and on the web. Kerrie also reaches out to inquisitive older adults with book programs that speak to their lives.

Kerrie enjoys the challenge of putting the past into context for today’s wired youngsters. “Kids don’t get enough credit for being able to understand history as it actually happened,” she says. “As I write, I explain the whys of situations as well as the whats.”
Kerrie blogs with other nonfiction authors offering content-based, kid-friendly activities at http://hands-on-books.blogspot.com/.
Kerrie is iNK THINK TANK’s Wondering Woman. Her books on women war reporters, women’s suffrage, Theodore Roosevelt, Elizabeth Tudor, and Isaac Newton have been honored by the Children’s Book Council, National Council for the Social Studies, VOYA, Smithsonian magazine, and the National Science Teachers Association. MUMMIES EXPOSED! garnered four starred reviews.
